Ladysmith is one of the fastest growing communities in British Columbia. The Town has seen a 53% increase in population since 1990, with its largest growth occurring between 1991 and 1996. During that period the Ladysmith population grew by 24.5%, or an average of 4.9% per year. A corresponding increase in the local business community has also occurred. In 2006, the Town issued twice as many business licenses than in 2000.
With an expanding number of small-scale manufacturing operations, mostly engaged in forestry and related activities, Ladysmith is also a great centre for small businesses, including service and home-based enterprises. Ladysmith is a spirited community that values its small town feeling and offers residents a full and healthy way of life.
